When you move in to a new property there are always features left by previous owners that aren't quite to your taste. It's important that your family makes it's mark to make it feel like home.
A 1960's property in Brill between Long Crendon and Bicester had an open fire with a stone fireplace. The new owners wanted to tap into a more classic traditional feel and enlarge the fireplace to make the room feel more spacious.
Having removed the old fireplace and opened up the space behind, we formed a generous fireplace ready for a new log burner.
The chamber where the stove sits was lined with a heatproof board to ensure that unlike plaster, there is no cracking over time. It can also be easily painted with normal emulsion paint.
A traditional slate hearth was laid and oiled to bring out the natural grain detail.
The design was completed with a Charnwood C-Five on a store stand in a Bronze colour. This warm brown tone looks amazing against the natural wood beam installed to finish the design.
The project took just 3 days with the homeowner needing to be home at the very beginning to agree the finer details and at the end for a demonstration of the stove.
