This Long Crendon living room was a light and airy space but something of a blank canvas. The room benefitted from four large windows which provided plenty of light and so the two smaller windows were unnecessary. Between the windows there was a small, boxed section housing the services for the ensuite bathroom above. This portion of the wall could become a spectacular fireplace with a faux chimney breast but it would take some artistic thinking and skilful construction.
We were delighted to be invited to create a beautiful feature fireplace. The design for the new fireplace was carefully conceived to complement the proportions of the room. It would also offer sufficient depth to safely house the existing ensuite services and the required twin wall flue. Our HETAS Engineers constructed the external elements of the flue whilst our talented fireplace specialist wove his magic indoors with block work and mortar. He carefully constructed a precision housing for the flue, downpipes and water supply and blocked up the two small windows. A bespoke granite hearth was fitted and the skirting boards were modified to create the ideal fireplace. It gave the impression that it had always been there.
The striking new feature was to be completed by a wood burning stove. As ever, it was crucial to find the right model to complement the modern interior whilst adding interest to the space. The Charnwood C-Seven was chosen for its appealing, timeless design. The C-Seven stove is neither overtly contemporary nor period in style. It was to provide a heart for the home that would blend seamlessly with any decorative changes made in the future.
